Getting Here

Go Green and Grab a ride with one of the car sharing sites. There are a few about and if you are passing Glasgow there is also Skye/Glasgow Car share on Facebook.

If you are on a cycling holiday the nearest cycle shops/hire are in Skeabost and Portree.  There is also bike hire in I have dry storage space for bicycles. Skye Bike Shack will drop and collect bikes.

City Link – Glasgow to Skye

City Link – Inverness to Skye

You can take a train from Fortwilliam to Mallaig or Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh.

From Mallaig you can take the Ferry to Armadale then a bus to portree. There are a few buses every day to Dunvegan.

Alternatively you can take the bus from Kyle to Portree then Dunvegan.

Buses run daily from Glasgow/Edinburgh/Fort William/Inverness and your destination will again be Mallaig or Kyle then Portree to Dunvegan.

Please note if you are thinking of coming via Mallaig there is a Ferry so check the ferry times before you leave and in the summer season it is wise to book ahead.

From May to October you could treat yourself and travel in style in the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig.


You will find car hire at most airports and large towns. Why not try hiring an electric car?There are charge points in Uig, Portree, Broadford and Stein. Stein is approx 15 mins from Minnies Rooms.

Check the Chargepoint map online before leaving to ensure there are adequate points along your journey.

When you get here there are various tour operators doing guided tours of the Island.
